Roger Teeuwen new Director of the BUas Academy for AI, Games & Media
On 1 January 2026, Roger Teeuwen will start as our new director of the Academy for AI, Games & Media and also as a member of the BUas Executive Board. He will succeed Wilma Franchimon, who has been fulfilling this role on a temporary basis since September 2023.

Roger Teeuwen (51) has worked at the Willem de Kooning Academy (Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences) in various positions since 2002. He is currently manager of Education & Research for the knowledge centre and master’s programmes at the Piet Zwart Institute. He himself graduated from this institute with a degree in Graphic Design (cum laude).
He started as course leader in Graphic Design in 2006, taught until 2019 and has since progressed to various management roles at the Willem de Kooning Academy. From 2011 onwards, he co-led a fundamental repositioning process in his role as chair of the management team.
Roger has contributed to the formation of various important partnerships, both nationally and internationally. Examples include collaborations with institutions such as the Maryland Institute College of Art (USA) and Zurich University of the Arts (Switzerland) for social design and transdisciplinary education and research. He was also co-initiator of innovative hbo/wo dual degree programmes, a partnership with Erasmus University, and Codarts, the Rotterdam Arts & Sciences Lab (RASL). This received national recognition in 2021 with the Higher Education Award.
Jorrit Snijder, President of the BUas Executive Board, says: ‘We are delighted that Roger Teeuwen will be our new AGM Director. He is a highly experienced manager who knows the world of the creative industry well and an excellent successor to Wilma Franchimon.’
