Social safety

Breda University of Applied Sciences strives to create a study and work environment where respect is central, and where everyone feels safe and comfortable. This environment facilitates studying and working in a pleasant and productive manner.

To maintain this environment, we have adopted a zero-tolerance approach to undesired behaviour, such as sexual harassment, discrimination, aggression, violence, bullying, and abuse of power.

What is inappropriate behaviour?

People who experience or witness inappropriate behaviour often hesitate to label it as such or to speak up about it. Am I overreacting? Have I interpreted this correctly? It is not easy to deal with, be-cause what exactly constitutes inappropriate behaviour?

There are various forms of inappropriate behaviour: bullying, sexual harassment, discrimination, vio-lence, and abuse of power.

Inappropriate behaviour is not only about shocking acts; it can also be very subtle. When people no longer feel safe or comfortable in their place of study or work because of someone else’s behaviour or remarks, their boundaries have been crossed and this can be pointed out as such. Talk to each other about it or report it to one of the confidential counsellors within BUas.
