Hospitable Transitions
The initiative focuses on accelerating sustainability transitions in the leisure, tourism and hospitality sectors across the Netherlands.
What was the goal of this research?
The project aims to stimulate systemic innovation and identify scalable and replicable sustainable solutions within the hospitality domain. By creating an ecosystem for collaboration among knowledge institutions, businesses, and societal organisations, the programme addresses pressing societal challenges and helps transition the sector toward climate neutrality, broad prosperity, healthier regions, and regenerative area development.
What method was employed?
The project employs an interactive, design-based and experimental approach within four regional “transition arenas.” These arenas serve as practical testing grounds where lecturers, researchers, and practice partners collaborate on developing innovative solutions. A national “transition forum” facilitates knowledge exchange, learning effects, and the scaling of successful practices.
What findings did we uncover?
While the project is still in its early stages, initial outcomes include the development of a flexible and robust ecosystem of regional and national stakeholders, reinforced by a strong knowledge infrastructure. The additional funding and organisational capacity from SPRONG are being used to support and expand this ecosystem.
