Application and selection procedure

Creative Media and Game Technologies

Would you like to apply and do you have a diploma from a non-Dutch education institution? Please follow the procedure below. Do you have a diploma from a Dutch education institution (diplomas from the ABC- & SSS Islands not included)? Please follow the application procedure for Dutch students.

International applicants

The Creative Media and Game Technologies programme admits a maximum of 200 students each year through a selection procedure. Make sure you apply before the deadline of 1 May, and to complete your application in My Online Application before 2 May, 5 PM CET

Don't wait until the last moment! There are three submission rounds (see step 3). The earlier you register and submit your assignment, the sooner you will know where you stand. Useful when organising things like housing, student funding, and your work schedule.

To submit your application, you need a DigiD. Don’t have one yet? Make sure to request it on time. It takes five working days.

Application steps

Step 1. Submit your application via Studielink

You are required to apply via Studielink, the platform for enrolment in higher education programmes in the Netherlands. Not only do you choose the Creative Media and Game Technologies programme, you also select the study path you want to attend: Design & Production, Programming or Visual Arts. You can track the status of your application on your personal Studielink page and in the progress overview in My Online Application.

Step 2. Apply via My Online Application

After submitting your application in Studielink, you will receive an email inviting you to complete your application in My Online Application. This must be done by 2 May, 5 PM CET.

In My Online Application, you'll be asked to answer additional questions (e.g., about your English proficiency) and upload the following documents:

  • Curriculum vitae (resume)
  • ID / Passport
  • Secondary school diploma with grade list and translation (if not in English, French, German, or Dutch), or your most recent grade list if you haven’t yet received your diploma.

You can track the status of your application in My Online Application.

Step 3. Take part in the selection procedure

Once the admissions officer has checked and (conditionally) approved your educational background, you will be invited to start your online intake assignment. The selection process consists of the following steps:

Part 1 - Online intake assessment: Portfolio/intake assignment
Find the portfolio assignment instructions for each study track here below.

Please note: These are the guidelines for completing your portfolio assignment. You will receive the required template once your application via Studielink has been processed and (conditionally) approved.

Part 2: Interview
Once your assessment is complete and positively evaluated, you will receive an invitation for an interview. The interview is conducted in English. Applicants living in the Netherlands attend on campus; those living abroad attend online.

Three submission rounds!
Make sure to submit your intake assignment before one of the deadlines below:

  • Round 1 – Deadline: 20 February
Assignments submitted by 20 February will be reviewed in the first round. If your result is sufficient, you will be invited for an interview during the week of 9 March. You will receive early confirmation of whether you have secured a place, are on the waiting list, or have not been selected.
  • Round 2 – Deadline: 27 March
Submissions between 21 February and 27 March will be reviewed in the second round. Interviews for successful candidates will take place in the week of 20 April.
  • Round 3 – Final deadline: 15 May
Submissions between 28 March and 15 May will be reviewed in the final round. Interviews for successful candidates will be held in the week of 1 June. This is the absolute final deadline. After 15 May, submissions will no longer be accepted.

Make sure you are confident about your work before submitting. You can submit only once. Resubmission in a later round is not possible.

You will receive your result within 10 working days of the interview: admission, rejection, or placement on the waiting list. Candidates who are placed on the waiting list will be invited in order of submission and evaluation. Final decisions will be communicated by 7 July at the latest.

Step 4. Complete your enrolment: payment of tuition fee

In order to finalise your enrolment, you will need to confirm your digital authorisation or arrange payment of your tuition fee. More information can be found here. This will be possible from early May. You can expect an email with a request to enter your payment details via your 'To do' list in Studielink.

Frequently asked questions

Can I submit earlier?

Yes! Did you finish your assignment early? Submit it right away! We will match it to the appropriate round based on your submission date. The earlier you submit, the sooner we can review it and let you know whether you are invited for an interview.

Do I have to wait until my final exam grades are known?

No. You can apply and participate in the selection process while still taking your exam. We ask for your most recent list of grades; you will submit your final diploma later.

What if I submit my assignment too late?

Submissions received after May 15 will not be considered for this year’s selection. If you encounter any issues, please contact us immediately at [email protected].

Can I complete the assignment before applying via Studielink?

No, you have to apply via Studielink first. Once your enrolment application is processed and your educational background is (conditionally) approved by our admissions officer, you will receive access to the assignment template. In the meantime, you can review the instructions to get a clear idea of what’s expected.

Do I have a better chance of getting admitted if I submit the assignment earlier?

No, submitting early does not increase your chances of admission. However, if you are accepted in an earlier intake round, you will have more time to prepare for your start at BUas.

Can I participate in multiple intake rounds?

No, you can only participate in one intake round. So make sure your assignment and portfolio are in perfect order when you submit them. If you're not selected, you can try again next year.

What if I register after 1 May?

This isn't possible. You can register again for the next academic year starting 1 October.
