TourRisk: Tourism Climate Risk
Paul Peeters advises Vestlandsforsking on Norwegian tourism’s commitment to zero emissions before 2050 and adaptation to climate change.
The project’s main objective is to describe policies for Norway’s future tourism sector in light of the climate crisis the world faces with.
Ideally, the tourism sector should become resilient and able to withstand world climate crises better than today. Also, it should become a low-emission and high-yield sector. Norwegian society will need to undergo a deep transition involving considerable emission cuts across all sectors, including tourism – a sector currently characterised by of high energy consumption and, in particular, large transport-related emissions.
