What does a job in Design & Production entail?

The Design & Production track prepares you for a role as a game designer or producer in the game industry, focusing on the entire game development process, from concept to release.

As a game designer or producer, you will be responsible for creating and refining the game experience. You will generate concepts, develop prototypes and apply iterative design based on test results. You collaborate with programmers, visual artists and other team members to design the game and make sure everything runs smoothly throughout the process. Depending on your choice, you can specialise in roles such as technical designer, level designer or producer, contributing to awesome games.

Environment Artist

Designs and constructs environments specifically for cinematic sequences, balancing visual fidelity with performance. 

 

 

Rigger

Builds the skeletal structure for 3D models, allowing them to be animated.

 

Creature Artist

Responsible for modelling characters.

 

 

 

 

Technical Artist (FX TD)

Develops procedural art and visual effects, optimising textures and workflows for seamless integration into real-time engines or rendering pipelines.

 

 

Texture Artist

Paints or creates textures to be applied to 3D models, adding realism and detail.

 

Concept Artist

Creates visual concepts and designs for characters, environments and props. 

 

 

Animator

Brings characters and objects to life through movement and expression.

 

Modelling Artist

Designs and creates digital 3D models of characters, props and environments.

A master’s programme after Design & Production

After earning your bachelor's degree in CMGT Design & Production, you have the option of attending a master's programme at BUas or at another university for further specialisation. With a VWO (or equivalent) diploma you can enrol  on the fast track and get your bachelor’s and master’s in four years.
