Selection procedure

The intake assessment consists of two parts, each of which determines 50% of the total score. Your total score will be the basis for our decision (admission, waiting list or rejection).

Part 1: Online tests and assignments

1. Application letter, online (max. 100 points)

The application letter will be assessed on certain elements and points will be awarded per element. These elements are:

  • completeness of the letter (max. 10 points)
  • English language proficiency (max. 20 points)
  • the candidate formulates a clear motivation for choosing Creative Business. We provide small-scale and intensive education. This means that we expect a 40 hours per week commitment to your study, strong teamwork, engagement in regular (1-on-1) feedback sessions, the ability to study independently, an interest in extra-curricular activities and a proactive attitude. The candidate explains why they fit this profile. (max. 20 points) 
  • the candidate appears to have formed a good picture of the industry (max. 20 points)
  • the structure of the letter (20 points)
  • a logical connection with activities carried out in the past (10 points)
2. Résumé, online (max. 100 points)

The résumé will be assessed on the aspects given below. The prospective student can score on either work experience or degree programme.

  • general experience (max. 20 points)
  • work experience (max. 20 points)
  • creativity (AV/web/music, etc.) (max. 20 points)
  • computer skills (max. 20 points)
  • other matters that cannot be related to the above points (max. 20 points)
3. Study skills test, (max. 10 points)

The study skills test consists of a questionnaire relating to general higher professional education skills: 

  • intrinsic goal orientation
  • extrinsic goal orientation
  • task value
  • self-check
  • self-effectivity for learning
  • fear of testing
  • cognitive learning strategies
  • learning management strategies

The prospective student indicates what he thinks about various statements on a 7-point scale ranging from ‘totally disagree’ to ‘totally agree’. The final result is placed on a 1 to 10 scale.

If a prospective student has a low score for certain components, a study coach may provide support during his studies. If the score is low in the entire questionnaire, it may be decided not to admit the prospective student. The results will always be considered in the light of other tests and assignments. 

4. Previous knowledge test, online (max. 10 points)

The previous knowledge test is an online multiple-choice test asking questions (on a basic level) about the various subjects dealt with in the programme. The test is administered online and is assessed on a 1 to 10 scale.


Part 2: Face-to-face interview

5. Interview at Breda University of Applied Sciences or via Teams (max. 100 points)

As a final component, prospective students that have completed assignments 1 through 4 will be invited for an interview.

The following matters will be discussed during the interview:

  • why Breda University of Applied Sciences?
  • why Creative Business?
  • orientation (Open Day/Orientation Day)
  • questions about developments in the media industry
  • questions about expectations of the degree programme
  • questions to form a picture of the profession

Points for assessment:

  • motivation (max. 20 points)
  • professional image (max. 20 points)
  • communication skills and presentation (max. 20 points)
  • image of the degree programme (max. 20 points)
  • English proficiency (max. 20 points)

All the results obtained will be collected and translated into a 100-point scale.
