BUas is more than a university of applied sciences. BUas is a European R&D university, educating young professionals, focusing on innovations with industry relevance and societal impact.

We empower young professionals on their journey to shape a better world and deliver young professionals to industries that operate in a world that is rapidly and constantly changing. That, in a nutshell, summarises our mission and vision.

Our ambition is to give our students something extra. After all, properly preparing students for their role in a diverse and dynamic context and in a world that is continuously changing requires something extra. That’s what we call the ‘plus’. BUas+ goes further. In our strategy for the coming years, we are building on the strategic direction we set four years ago with three new pillars.

• We educate for an ever-changing world, but even more than in previous years, we will ensure that our students are truly future-ready – flexible, digitally skilled, and with a broad view of the world.
• We are establishing ourselves as a leading European R&D university, with a strong focus on applied research that is closely linked to education and society.
• We foster a caring and inclusive community where students, staff and partners feel valued and supported.

Future-proof professionals

We train students to become professionals who are ready for the future – flexible, digitally skilled, and with a broad view of the world.

We are continuously improving education by putting our educational vision into practice and ensuring that students truly benefit from our Education+ strategy.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is set to play an increasingly important role. We are using it in education and research, as well as in our business operations, and we are training our students and staff to make the most of it. 

We are future-proofing and enhancing the international appeal of our degree programmes, offering relevant bachelor's, master's and honours programmes, as well as minors and opportunities for alumni to further their development.

European applied R&D university

We are establishing ourselves as a leading European university, with a strong focus on applied research that is closely linked to education and society.

We are developing our vision of applied research (R&D) by drawing up clear research and knowledge agendas to improve the connection between education and research. 

At the same time, we are strengthening our European presence through strategic partnerships, such as KreativEU and other European R&D networks.

We are also collaborating more closely with companies to further develop our European role as a knowledge partner.

Committed community

We foster a caring and inclusive community where students, staff and partners feel valued and supported.

Students and staff are at the heart of our organisation. We are building a small-scale, committed and diverse international community that pays particular attention to well-being, social safety and inclusion.

At the same time, we are strengthening our professional role in education, research and service provision, for example through the Community for Teaching & Learning.

We also invest in leadership and the ability to initiate change together.

Moreover, we are investing in our campus, including student housing, a Game & Tech Centre, and smart technologies that contribute to an innovative learning environment.
