Structure of the general follow-up programme
The general Leisure & Events Management programme welcomes you to a positive and encouraging community in which you can develop into a young professional in the leisure and events industry. What makes the general programme so special is its flexibility; you have countless possibilities to shape your own programme. We encourage curiosity throughout the sector and motivate you to make conscious choices for your (and our) future. So you do not choose a specific specialisation, but you explore the entire leisure industry.
We maintain close contact with you as a student throughout your journey. We are transparent and as clear as possible, so you will successfully reach the finish line. To help you become an independent and a daring ‘game changer’, we provide you with building blocks that are based on essential knowledge. We help you develop your professional identity, along with theoretical, research and social skills that are important to you and accelerate your talents, with the ultimate goal of making the world a little better.
In block A: you will work on Marketing and Experience Design based on a project for a client; you will develop an experience or concept using the ABCD(EF) model of Imagineering, then you will also process this into a strategic marketing plan and a communication message. In addition, you will also work on Communication and Research Design, or research. There is also the Made for LIVF program: to develop your professional skills.
In block B: you will learn to understand the basic principles of Stakeholder Management and apply them in a real stakeholder meeting, which you organize with your group for a company: who are the stakeholders, which forces, interests and resources play a role?
A study trip to a European city is also organised!
In blocks C and D you will go into practice with your first internship.
In terms A and B you go back to the industry again by doing your second work placement.
Term C covers vision development. It focuses on holding creative sessions with stakeholders: every group must hold a creative session with people involved in the organisation for which a vision is being developed.
The next assignment is designing an experience for an external client. You will follow the ABCD process consisting of the Analytical phase, Incubation phase, Concept phase, and finally, the Design phase for the final experience.
Term D covers Leisure for Change: project about leadership and creative entrepreneurship. How to become a ‘bold game changer’: a leader or entrepreneur of the next generation who sets the new standard. Topics are: understanding leadership, getting the tools to tackle complex, real-world issues (‘wicked problems’), exploring strategies to tackle these challenges with creativity and new insights and teach you important skills for being successful in the rapidly evolving leisure and events industry.
In the last part of the programme you attend a minor and develop your strategies further during your graduation project. You have the following options: you can choose one of the minors offered by Leisure & Events Management, but there are also other minors within BUas that are relevant to your programme. It is also possible to take a minor at another university of applied sciences.
In the last period you work on a graduation project or graduation thesis within your own programme in which you solve a management issue in the Leisure & Events industry.
You graduate by taking a final exam, in which you demonstrate you are ready to start as a Leisure & Events Manager.
