Introduction to the Interactive sessions
- Session 1: Rethinking tourism mobility consumption
Moderated by Celiane Camargo – Borges from Breda University of Applied Sciences
Zooming into the interaction between supply and demand in tourism, this interactive session sketches alternative futures of sustainable tourism consumption and related to it tourism mobility consumption.
Join this interactive session to explore how we can reduce tourism’s reliance on fossil fuels, reimagining more sustainable travel system. Together, we’ll discuss how tourism habits are shaped and challenge common consumption patterns in tourism mobility. Through group work and brainstorming, we’ll explore alternative ways to travel that respect planetary limits and identify changes needed from both travellers and the tourism industry to achieve this.

Moderated by Yogi Hendlin from Erasmus University Rotterdam
This interactive session explores political, economic and ideological factors that complicate business model innovation for sustainable tourism mobilities. We identify the various and subtle mechanisms delaying the required transitions to responsible travel, and collaboratively develop strategies to address these obstacles.
The aim of this session, to familiarise respondents with political, economic and ideological factors and resulting delay mechanisms that prevent the required business model innovations to take shape and create more responsible travel behaviour. Participants will jointly identify viable strategies to address these obstacles and investigate opportunities by building better value propositions for sustainable tourism mobilities.

This session explores how data can enhance tourism decision-making and performance evaluation from a holistic destination perspective. We’ll discuss how cross-sector tourism and transport collaboration can unlock new opportunities, assess data availability in tourism and transport, and identify the need for common definitions to drive sustainable policies. By the end of the session, participants will gain insights into existing data gaps, shared needs, and actionable opportunities for fostering collaboration between the tourism and transport sectors.

Moderated by: Willem van der Deijl-Kloeg from Tilburg University
This interactive session discusses the justice implications of current tourism mobility and provides directions for a just and ethical transition towards sustainable tourism mobility.
Air travel is the largest contributor to tourism-related emissions, yet only a small, affluent segment of the population benefits, while Western countries bear the greatest historical responsibility. As climate and ecological crises intensify, this also threatens industry resilience. This session examines the evolving value of travel and the ethics of high-emission transport in tourism, exploring mobility justice paradigms, policy trade-offs, and actionable interventions. Participants will gain deeper awareness of how to shape a just and ethical transition in tourism mobility.
