Implementing innovative ideas

Creativity is an innate human ability, and it serves us well to solve problems and make our lives better. However, implementing innovative ideas is not so easy, especially in an increasingly complex world. When we put matters into practice, a lot of challenges emerge on our way to success.

In this Imagineering course we will start by first redefining the concepts of success and failure. Will dive into our own assumptions of how the world works and how the collective behaves. Understanding different perspectives on change will help you see bumps in the road as clues, and setbacks as opportunities to refine strategies. Moreover, this course will give you tools and insights on designing, strategising, and financing innovative projects.

Study overview

Curriculum

In this course, you will receive lectures and participate in workshops on the following topics:

  • Designing (online and offline) community platforms
  • Business model innovation
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Impact design and monitoring
  • Impact investing
  • Generative Leadership

Students are encouraged to practice deep reflection on the process of learning, and how they impact processes of change. Because this course is partly project based, learning will flourish from applying the collective skills and knowledge of the group, while exchanging experiences and challenges within the learning community. In implementation processes, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach, but there are principles that can guide professionals on their quest, such as Effectuation, Sustainability, and Value Co-Creation.

Study load & coaching

The lectures and workshops of this microcredential are spread in the first five weeks of the programme, and students have four more weeks until the final deadline for their final deliverables. The total study load is eight ECTS credits. With one ECTS credit being equivalent to 28 hours of study, this means that the programme has a study load of approximately 25 hours per week. Coaching by lecturers is available on a weekly basis.

Study method

Since day one of this course, students will actively work on an implementation project in groups. And every week a clear output of the project must be realised. Between lectures and practical workshops, students apply new knowledge immediately in the case at hand. Reflective groups are also facilitated, when just-in-time teaching can occur, depending on the group's needs. Classes on Tuesdays are taught offline, while Wednesdays are online or offline with the possibility to join online. Classes on Wednesdays are also recorded and can be watched on-demand. There are no classes scheduled on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, which allows time for independent study.

Practical information

Edubadge

By the end of the course, students are required to hand in a Business Inspiration Report, with advice to the commissioner of their project. Moreover, they are required to reflect on the process of change, justifying their decisions based on the weekly output and how they personally developed during this journey.

If you finish this course successfully, you will receive an Edubadge, a recognised digital certificate. This microcredential will be provided at NLQF level 7.
