You powered by AI?

Our student Yuliia certainly is! And in her own unique – almost invisible – way. Yullia is a third-year student of Applied Data Science & Artificial Intelligence and has been nominated in the AI competition organised by the Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences (VH).

We are incredibly proud of Yuliia Bobrovytska. She is a third-year student on the Applied Data Science & Artificial Intelligence programme, which BUas launched four years ago and from which the first alumni are now graduating with a focus on the practical implementation of AI.

Yuliia will graduate next year, but she is already visible in the top ten of the higher professional education student competition ‘Jij powered by AI?’ organised by the Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences (VH).

She gave a striking answer to the question:

What is the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on your future profession?

‘When people think of AI, they often imagine robots or machines that replace human work. As a student of Data Science & AI and a future data scientist, I see my role not in building machines, but in building trust. I see myself differently: as an invisible architect.’

In The Invisible Architect, Yuliia explores the invisible influence of data scientists on the world. She visualised a skyline constructed from data streams – a metaphor for the structures that AI helps to shape. Her concept emphasises that people remain in control of the blueprint.

The jury was impressed by how creatively, honestly and surprisingly students demonstrated what AI can mean for their field – including both the opportunities and the ethical questions. Based on vision, originality, clarity and depth, ten entries particularly stood out. These students now have a chance to win the grand prize of €2,601 (= one year's tuition fees).

The winner of the higher professional education student competition ‘Jij powered by AI?’ will be announced during the SURF Education Days on 12 November 2025 in Amare, an international stage for music and dance in The Hague. More information about the VH competition can be found here (in Dutch).
