EW Magazine (formerly: Elsevier Weekblad) compared 2,301 full-time bachelor’s and master’s programmes. The results are largely based on the Nationale Studenten Enquête (NSE / National Student Survey). All study programmes are grouped into ten categories, such as Economics & Law; Media, Communication & Language; and Behaviour & Society.

The answers of eleven NSE questions are compared. Ten of these questions deal with satisfaction, such as ‘How satisfied are you with your study programme in general?’ and ‘How satisfied are you with the atmosphere of your study programme?’ The eleventh question is whether the student would choose their study programme again, based on their experiences.

Programmes that score significantly better than other programmes in at least five categories receive a medal. If a programme is high-performing for three years, it receives a gold medal. Two years results in silver, and one year in bronze.
