The Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences reaches agreements with the minister on the intake of international students
Universities of applied sciences, research universities and the minister have agreed to continue jointly monitoring the balance between the opportunities and challenges of internationalisation. In doing so, the recruitment of international students will remain explicitly focused on sectors facing (regional) shortages, such as engineering. In addition, where necessary, the number of places on programmes taught in a language other than Dutch may be limited at national level.
Part of the agreements is that educational institutions will continue to invest in fostering international students’ ties with the Netherlands. This is achieved, among other things, through Dutch language and culture courses and by providing good preparation for the transition to the labour market. Institutions will also continue to proactively inform international students about the shortage on the housing market.
This week, BUas is welcoming around 700 new international students. Welcome! Following the International Kick-Off, all students at BUas have the opportunity to take Dutch language and culture classes, even as a minor. We also encourage integration with other (Dutch) students, both in the classroom and beyond, through clubs, societies and online communities.
