A different take on economic impact

“The chief economist at Triodos is just a bit different,” Hans Stegeman explains. “I’m not just looking at macroeconomic trends – I also help steer our impact strategy. What’s happening in sustainability? Where can we make a difference? And how do we help push for even more impact?”

Triodos Bank prefers future-focused dialogues over box-ticking. “We ask clients: how are you contributing to the transition? And how can we support you in accelerating it?”

Trust is crucial

For Stegeman, the key barrier in the sustainability transition is a lack of trust. “People need to feel included in the change – call it a just transition. Whether it’s in agriculture or energy-intensive industries, change is needed, but we have to offer real perspective.”

Hope and perseverance

Despite obstacles, Stegeman remains optimistic. “Let’s show what is possible. Find each other, build partnerships, and keep explaining. Trust your own path – even when it’s tough.”

Triodos wants to go beyond financing: it wants to inspire. “We want to help our clients move through the transition even faster.”
