Strategic and financial choices at BUas for a healthy future

The announced cutbacks to higher education and applied research will affect the financial resources available for both education and research. Demographic changes and the possible consequences of the Balanced Internationalisation Act are additional factors that will influence the situation.

  • About BUas

BUas is facing major challenges. The changes mentioned above require us to make structural cuts amounting to €7.5 million in total. However, as BUas is a financially healthy organisation, these cuts can be implemented in several phases. The cuts will be spread out over the period from 2026 to 2029. In 2026, BUas will face cuts totalling €3 million out of an annual budget of approximately €97 million.

Strategic direction and efficiency

BUas is and will continue to be an international organisation with a strong community, where quality of education and relevance to the industry are paramount. To guarantee this, we will need to make well-considered strategic choices. In our strategy, we aim to strike the right balance between good education and research, income, expenditure, and the human dimension.

The necessary cutbacks require joint efforts, a future-proof personnel policy, and organisational efficiency. We are working on solutions that contribute to maintaining our healthy organisation, with opportunities for professional development, attention to (internal) mobility, and a sustainable approach to natural turnover.

Most importantly, BUas remains wholeheartedly committed to providing high-quality education and research, and to ensuring a successful future for our students. Together, we can ensure that BUas continues to be an inspiring and innovative place to learn and work.
