Investigation into outbreak during ‘Unexpected Journey’ completed
GGD West-Brabant has completed its investigation into the gastrointestinal symptoms reported during the ‘Unexpected Journey’ introduction week at the end of August. The cause was norovirus, a highly contagious virus that spreads rapidly in large groups. It has not been possible to establish with certainty how the virus entered the campsite. The investigation into the caterers revealed no indications of any shortcomings.
In the week following the introduction event, 347 participants completed the GGD survey. Thanks to this high response rate, the GGD was able to gain a detailed understanding of the situation. Many thanks to everyone who took part.
We will take the GGD’s recommendations on hand hygiene, cleaning practices and dealing with cases of illness into account when organising future events.
