Festival to mark the 50th anniversary of the Vereniging Hogescholen (VH)

On 9 May, the NBC in Nieuwegein will host the ‘Voor de toekomst van Nederland’ festival for universities of applied sciences. During this festival, universities of applied sciences from across the country will showcase their education and applied research through a variety of projects, performances and demonstrations.

  • About BUas

Universities of applied sciences from all over the Netherlands will present around 100 inspiring examples of their education and research: from technology to nutrition, from healthcare to safety, from digitisation to inclusion. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. Registration (via www.hbofestival.nl) is required.

The festival is being organised to mark the 50th anniversary of the Netherlands Association of Universities of Applied Sciences (VH), which represents 36 universities of applied sciences with a total of 450,000 students throughout the country. The festival will be opened by VH chair Maurice Limmen and VNO-NCW chair Ingrid Thijssen. They will share their views on the value of higher professional education (HBO) and its impact on our economy and labour market.

On the ‘Perspectieven Podium’(Perspectives Stage), a number of politicians, employers, board chairs of universities of applied sciences, societal organisations, and students will give pitches on the value and future of HBO. They will engage in dialogue with each other and with the audience on important themes such as the accessibility of education, the international role of our HBO, future plans for teacher training, and the value of HBO education for regional development.

At the ‘Innovatieplein’ (Innovation Square), you can expect demonstrations from applied research and educational innovations. These include VR and AI demos, agricultural innovations and technical marvels, as well as stands on behavioural change, inclusion and care. There will also be exhibitions and musical contributions from art programmes. Visitors can get involved in workshops on topics such as collaboration, diversity, lifelong development, digitisation, and enriched learning environments.

Festive snacks and drinks will be available throughout the day.
