BUas raises 51,800 euros for students who need extra support
Last Thursday, 29 October, 120 guests gathered in the chapel on the campus of Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) for the first Friends of BUas charity dinner, organised by the independent Friends of BUas Fund. The proceeds from the evening – 51,800 euros – will go to BUas students who, due to unforeseen, urgent and temporary circumstances, need financial assistance to continue their studies, or who, with a little support, can develop their talents. Sometimes, a single moment of support is the difference between dropping out and carrying on.
Students take centre stage
BUas hotel management students organised the festive evening, and several affected students shared their own stories. In doing so, they demonstrated what support at the right moment means to them. For example, one student unexpectedly became a carer for both her parents, which meant she was no longer able to earn her own income and needed temporary support. The Friends of BUas Fund relies entirely on donations and fundraising. Study association ‘t Kag also spoke about the activities they organised over the past year to raise money for the fund, and presented a large cheque to the board.
Support from the mayor
Paul Depla, Mayor of Breda, attended the evening and spoke about the importance of the fund for society and the economy in general, and for the city and the region in particular. He believes it is important to pay attention to students’ well-being and to ensure they can settle in and thrive in Breda. For that reason, he supports the Friends of BUas Fund.
Auction and raffle
Guests took part in several bidding rounds for unique experiences, including tickets to sports matches or special events, exclusive courses, luxury products, and VIP festival tickets. During the raffle, attendees had the chance to win prizes donated by BUas’ industry partners and entrepreneurs from Breda and beyond.
About the fund
The Friends of BUas Fund is an independent foundation that provides financial support to BUas students in exceptional circumstances not covered by existing schemes, such as the Student Support Fund.
The fund’s board would like to thank all guests, sponsors, volunteers and students for their contributions!
