Lecturer/Researcher in Hotel Management

As an all-round Lecturer/Researcher (0.8–1 FTE) at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) you are passionate about the international hotel industry – spanning operations, rooms division, operations management and F&B – and you are eager to share this passion with the next generation. You will teach, supervise and challenge our students as they prepare for a future career in hospitality. You will be working in an intercultural and international environment, on our green sustainable campus near the city centre of Breda.

About this job

As an all-round Lecturer/Researcher (0.8-1 FTE) in Hotel Management at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas), you will be involved in both education and research projects to help shape future developments within the Academy for Hotel & Facility (AHF). Your career has taken you through multiple jobs in the international hospitality industry – from operations and rooms division to operations management and Food & Beverage – and now you feel the urge to do something different: to pass on that guest-centric, service-minded approach to the next generation. You will inspire our students with your deep expertise, hands-on experience, and plenty of stories about the tricks of the trade. You are curious about data and the role of AI in hospitality, and genuinely open to exploring and developing this further.

You will work together with other lecturers, researchers and support staff within a close-knit, informal community: teaching classes in English, supervising students during their international placements, graduation assignment and bachelor’s thesis projects, and developing course materials. You will take an active role in the digitalisation of our programmes, exploring the potential of digital learning environments. For some courses, you will also take the lead in coordination, acting as the key contact for your teams and for internal stakeholders. Your broad national and international network keeps you connected to current developments; strengthening our curriculum through guest lecturers, practical assignments and placements, and representing the academy at conferences and industry events. You know how to actively contribute your knowledge to applied research.

In our educational vision, collaborative learning takes centre stage. Rather than traditional lectures, we prioritise continuous interaction with students, working on a wide range of challenges in small-scale learning communities. You will not need to have all the answers – your role is to guide students in finding them for themselves. At Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas), we operate on the principle of team-based working, where responsibilities and authority are assigned to teams within the academy. This approach leaves plenty of room for your own input, enabling you to help shape the future of education. And with every cohort, you will find yourself learning something new as well.

Preferably, you will start this position at the beginning of the new academic year (17 August 2026).

What do we offer?

  • You will build an attractive pension through the ABP pension fund;
  • Working at BUas means always striving for ‘the plus’. BUas aims to be more than just a university of applied sciences, continuously focusing on development and creating meaningful experiences;
  • You will be working at a top-ranked university of applied sciences on a green, sustainable campus near the city centre of Breda;
  • You will be working in an attractive and friendly working environment together with enthusiastic colleagues from the industry and students from around the world.

What do we ask of you?

  • You are curious about data, applied research, and the role of AI in hospitality education – or genuinely open to exploring and developing this further;
  • You have teaching experience or are willing to complete a didactic certificate;
  • You are comfortable being part of the students’ learning process. You are at ease with the fact that you won't always have all the answers during a project;
