So, there you are, standing with a well-deserved certificate in your hands and a big smile on your face … But now what?
This is the moment you wave your student life goodbye. Luckily, we have made it easy for you with this checklist.
Terminate your enrolment by submitting a request via Studielink (maximum processing time of 1.5 months). If you do not sign out, you will have to pay a tuition fee for a longer period, which is money better to be spent on a wardrobe for your future job interviews.
Please note: when submitting your request, please indicate that you have graduated and as of which date you would like to terminate your enrolment. The first possibility to terminate your enrolment is the last day of the month in which you graduated. Your request will not be forwarded to DUO to cancel your student grant / finance, make sure to do this your self in the following step.
If you are receiving a student grant and/or an OV (public transport) card, make sure to cancel this on time via MijnDUO. Check here in Dutch and English how to do this.
Obtain a digital extract of your degree certificate through Mijn DUO. You can obtain this digital extract free of charge. This specimen has the same value as a certified copy of your degree certificate.
Please note: a Dutch citizen service number (called BSN-nummer in Dutch) and a DigiD is required for this.
Keep in mind: about 1 to 1.5 years after your graduation you will receive an invitation for the national survey HBO Monitor.
We certainly hope this is not the end of our relationship, so stay in touch with us and with your fellow alumni.
Therefore we would like to point out some interesting network possibilities. Of course, you can also follow us on social media.

In LinkedIn we have a corporate LinkedIn group for all alumni of BUas, NHTV, VAT and NWIT. It is called Alumni – Breda University of Applied Sciences.
We have created several alumni groups in LinkedIn; one for each of the eight study domains (Built Environment, Facility, Games, Hotel, Leisure & Events, Logistics, Media and Tourism). Here domain-related information is shared (jobs, research results, events related to the field of study). All the groups have the same name, just the domain name is different, e.g. Tourism Alumni – Breda University of Applied Sciences; or Logistics Alumni – Breda University of Applied Sciences.
You can find the links on this page below the text.
Facebook alumni group: here we share the more fun memories of your student days.
The NL alumni network is a platform for NL alumni, students, interns and Netherlands alumni associations, as well as Dutch education institutions, embassies and organisations.
When you graduate in June, July or August, your enrolment and payment will be terminated automatically at the end of the academic year (31 August). A request for termination of enrolment via Studielink isn’t necessary. As long as you are still enrolled with BUas you may keep your student grant and keep using your OV (public transport) card.
If you don’t terminate your enrolment via Studielink, you’ll automatically be enrolled with BUas until the end of the academic year (31 August). This means that you will have to pay tuition fees until that date. As long as you are still enrolled with BUas you may keep your student grant and keep using your OV (public transport) card.
Are you an international student who recently graduated? In this flyer you can find information about the search year and other residence permit that can facilitate a stay in the NL after graduation.
